Attendance Policy
.

Appointments
Regular attendance at all appointments is expected of every student. This includes classes, assemblies, music appointments, work, chapel, residence hall worships, weekend religious services, etc.

Attendance Records
Every day record is taken for each class, work assignment, assembly, and worship. A list of absences and tardies will be posted on the bulletin boards in the Ad Building, cafeteria, and dorms. Students should check these regularly for their names and correct any mistakes promptly.

Excused Absences
Absences are excusable if the student is ill or has a school-approved medical or dental appointment. There may be times when it is imperative for a student to be absent for reasons other than these. In such cases, the student must receive permission from the principal or vice-principal and then make arrangements with the dean, teachers, and work supervisors regarding classes and work to be missed. Such arrangements must be made before the absence takes place.

Procedure After Absence
After a student has been absent from any appointment he / she must obtain a written excuse from the authorized staff member or parent and take it to the registrar’s office. This must be done within one school day after returning to classes. If the absence is not cleared up within twenty-four hours it may remain un-excused.

Make-Up Work
When classes are missed, work missed may be made up at the discretion of the teacher. Teachers are not required to permit students to make up work missed during un-excused absences.

Tardiness

  • Students are expected to meet appointments on time. Two un-excused tardies will be counted as one absence. A student will be given a tardy if he comes to class or work during the first ten minutes of the period; after this time he will be given an absence. For more information about work tardies see the "Work Program".
  • If a staff member has not arrived has not arrived at an appointment or sent word for the students to wait, they may leave ten minutes after the starting bell rings.

Sickness
If a student is sick, the school nurse and the dean must be notified and the student is required to stay in the dorm until the next morning unless the nurse gives other instructions. If the student is out of the dorm without permission, his / her absences for being sick will not be excused. Playing sports on the same day as one was signed in sick is not allowed.

Attendance Points
Absences and tardies are turned in to the Registrar's Office daily, and points are given as follows:

  • 1 un-excused absence from class or work 1 point
  • 1 un-excused tardy from class .5 point
  • 1 un-excused tardy from work .33 point

Consequences for accumulation of points are as follows.
  • At 3 points the student receives a letter of warning with a copy sent to the parents.
  • At 5 points the student is called before the Administrative Council for discipline and parents are notified.
  • At six points the student is again called before the Administrative Council for additional discipline. Parents are notified.
  • At 7 points the student may be asked to withdraw from school. The student may then reapply to the Admissions Committee and pay a re-registration fee of U.S. $100. If accepted back in school, the student is placed on Attendance Probation. He / she will be allowed to start his / her points over, but will only be allowed to accrue half the number of points before the usual penalties are applied.
  • If the student reaches a point of re-registration a second time, only 1 absence equivalent will be allowed for the remainder of the semester. The student will be asked to withdraw permanently if more points are received.
  • Students who get 3 or more points in one day will have their case handled by the Administrative Council.
  • Continued problems with attendance may result in the student being asked to withdraw from school for the remainder of the year.
  • If a student misses fifteen percent or more of a class, excused or un-excused, he / she may not receive credit in that class. The Academic Standards Committee will decide each case.
